how to increase battery life on android

It is said that this app saves some battery life of your phone by tweaking your mobile data while the phone's screen is off. This does not mean that your network is being turned off so that you won't be notified of calls, messages and all that, but it seems to in a way disable your packet data for you and probably does some other changes which atleast I'm not aware of.

It is also claimed that this is "Samsung's official battery saver app" which I'm guessing most of you including myself never heard of so far. He claims he got it off a Samsung Galaxy S2.
